Established in 1795, and home to five Pennsylvania governors, Bellefonte welcomes you with a warm Victorian enchantment all its own. Renowned for its graceful architecture, from lovingly maintained private homes to stately public buildings, Bellefonte proudly maintains its ties to the past with such popular annual events as the community-wide Victorian Christmas celebration.
Bellefonte is also proud to be an integral part of Penn State history. When John Dunlop arrived in the Bellefonte area in 1794, in conjunction with his iron works he brought with him many prominent attorneys — future judges and governors of Pennsylvania. These men and their successors were paramount to the founding of the Farmers High School which later became Penn State University.
